Lync

Microsoft Lync is a real-time communications environment offering instant messaging, audio-video, screen sharing, and web conferencing capabilities. It can be accessed through a browser-based Web App, or through installed clients on computers, smartphones, and tablets.

Lync client software is available for Windows and Mac which can be requested for installation or downloaded following the directions on this page.

When is Lync recommended?

Microsoft Lync is a powerful application with many uses. For video conferencing, the following systems are recommended based on use requirements.

  • Microsoft Lync - video conferencing with five or less active video participants
  • Blackboard Collaborate - video conferencing with more than five active video participants
  • Canvas Conferences - recommended for all instructional classroom use
